Pacific Grove, CA

The towns origins are as a Methodist summer retreat. In the late 1800s, a group of Methodists established a town in Pacific Grove as a place to escape the heat and crowds of the city. They built grand Victorian homes, established a Chautauqua Assembly, and created a thriving community that attracted people from all over the country.

Another important piece of Pacific Grove’s history is the Point Pinos Lighthouse, which was built in 1855 to guide ships through the dangerous waters of Monterey Bay. The lighthouse is still in operation today and is a popular destination for tourists.

During World War II, Pacific Grove was home to several military installations, including Fort Ord and the Naval Postgraduate School. After the war, many soldiers and their families decided to stay in the area, helping to fuel the town’s growth.

Its charming downtown area is filled with shops, restaurants, and galleries, while its beautiful beaches, scenic vistas, and historic landmarks make it a popular destination for tourists and locals alike.
