Los Angeles, CA

Downtown Los Angeles is a mecca for architecture enthusiasts, boasting a rich variety of styles to explore. Whether you’re interested in grand Beaux-Arts buildings, sleek Mid-century Modern structures, or ornate Gothic Revival designs, you’ll find it all here.

There are  several beautiful buildings from the early 1900s that have been preserved, like the Bradbury Building. It was built in 1893 and is famous for its stunning atrium with wrought-iron railings, ornate marble stairs, and a glass roof. You might recognize it from movies like Blade Runner.

Then there’s the Los Angeles Theatre, which was built in 1931 and designed in a mix of baroque and rococo styles.

The new architecture in Downtown LA is impressive. Take The Broad museum, for example. It’s a contemporary art museum that opened in 2015 and is housed in a building that looks like a giant honeycomb.

And then there’s the Walt Disney Concert Hall, which was designed by Frank Gehry and completed in 2003. It’s a stunning example of contemporary architecture, with its swooping stainless-steel curves and flowing lines.

All of these buildings come together to create a unique architectural landscape in Downtown LA

During my Christmas visits to LA, my cousin John and I created some personal videos exploring the city’s architecture and urban landscape. He is born and raised in the city and knows his way around. We wandered around Downtown LA, exploring  the historic buildings and modern skyscrapers that make up the city’s iconic skyline.

Los Angeles has a rich architectural history dating back to the late 19th century. The Bradbury Building, a prominent example of Victorian architecture, was built in 1893 and has been featured in numerous films and television shows. The Los Angeles City Hall, completed in 1928, is another notable historic landmark in the city. The Walt Disney Concert Hall, designed by Frank Gehry, opened in 2003 and has become an iconic symbol of the city’s modern architecture. The Capitol Records Building, completed in 1956, is another notable landmark with its distinctive circular design. The contemporary architecture scene in LA is constantly evolving, with new developments like The Broad museum and the Wilshire Grand Center adding to the city’s ever-changing skyline.

It was a great way for us to bond and create some lasting memories of our trips to LA.
