Yesterday morning I was exploring the area around Santa Clara University for my history project The Alameda.
I met Matty, she is 95 and was born and raised in Santa Clara, and has lived in the same home for 85 years. The home was built in 1898. Her father owned a local grocery store on Madison Street.
She was delightful to talk with, I look forward to a return visit.
As I was walking away, the postman showed up and they both shared a friendly greeting on the porch, as I'm sure they have done for years. The scene reminded me of an Edward Hopper painting.
