College Park and The Alameda on an 1886 Map

This incredibly detailed map from 1886 shows drainage, roads, blocks, lots, tract names, and partial land ownership. These old maps have helped my research piecing together The Alameda's history in San Jose, CA.

College Park,
The University of the Pacific moved to the Alameda in 1871 and then in 1923 moved to Stockton, CA. Bellarmine Preparatory occupies a part of the old campus. The rest of the campus was subdivided into a residential neighborhood, College Park.

The green space on the lower left is the former site of Agriculture Park Fairgrounds.

Shasta-Hanchett Park Residence Park was developed beginning in 1907 by Lewis E. Hanchett on the Agricultural Park site. The residence park was designed by John McLaren, the same landscape architect as Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. Happy Birthday John
