San Jose's Lowrider Day brought a full car show to Santa Clara Street in front of City Hall โ lowriders and classic cars lined up block after block, more cars parked out on the public square against City Hall itself.
The band Cisco Kid played on stage to a large crowd in the late afternoon, with the car show, Santa Clara Street, and City Hall serving as the backdrop behind the crowd, on a sunny day. Once the show ended and the street reopened, several cars cruised up Santa Clara Street, and cars were photographed against the historical and classic buildings along it for a more timeless look.
The event is put on by San Jose City Councilmembers Anthony Tordillos and Peter Ortiz's offices together with the United Lowrider Council of San Jose, marking the city's repeal of a cruising ban that had kept this community off the streets for 36 years. Today, Lowrider Day stands as a celebration of East San Jose's Chicano culture and community pride.
