A Special Gallery for Aunty Joy

This gallery is dedicated to my Aunty Joy, my grandmother’s twin sister, who was a big part of my life growing up. She never had children of her own, but she doted on us, and I always felt her love and encouragement.

She was a really cool lady—full of curiosity, adventure, and kindness. She loved to travel, often with her dear friend Joyce Carlson, a well-respected luminary in her own right. Together they explored the world, and Aunty Joy carried her camera everywhere she went.

On family visits, she would share her travel photographs, opening my eyes to places far beyond what I knew. Before my first trip to Europe, she gave me a piece of advice that has stayed with me ever since:
“Don’t photograph the whole building—find the details.”

Her work has never been shown publicly until now. This collection of 50 images reveals her unique way of seeing—capturing the small details, the fleeting gestures, and the genuine moments of street life. It feels special to finally share her photography, and to honor the influence she had on me and my journey as a photographer.
