Downtown San Jose Construction Boom in 2002

I moved to San Jose in 2002 and quickly became fascinated by the rapidly changing urban landscape of the city. One of the first things I began to photograph was the construction boom that was taking place at the time. Buildings such as the San Jose City Hall, Fairmont Hotel, Martin Luther King Jr Library, and 4th Street garage were just a few of the many being constructed.

As I walked through downtown San Jose , I became captivated by the contrast between the sleek, modern designs of the new buildings and the older, more traditional architecture that was already present in the city. I began to document this contrast through my photographs, capturing the way that the old and the new were interacting with each other.
