Burning Man, I, Robot  2018

Black Rock City, NV

1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.

2. A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.

3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

— Isaac Asimov, I, Robot

The theme “I, Robot” was used for the Burning Man festival in 2018. It was inspired by the famous science fiction book “I, Robot” written by Isaac Asimov. The book is a collection of short stories about robots and their interactions with humans. It is perhaps most famous for introducing the Three Laws of Robotics, which are a set of rules that govern the behavior of robots in Asimov’s fictional universe.

The Burning Man festival’s “I, Robot” theme explored the relationship between humans and machines, and how technology is changing our world. It encouraged participants to create art and installations that reflected on this theme, using robots as a symbol of the ways in which technology is transforming our lives.
